Christina Aguilera

When Christina Aguilera's self-titled debut was released in the summer of 1999, no one would have ever guessed it would become one of the best selling albums of the year.  After a fair amount of deliberation, I to purchased it and was unsure what to think.  Upon listening to it several times, I came to a disappointing conclusion.  Like many other albums released that year, it was lacking a real purpose and seemed to fit perfectly into the category of "run of the mill" pop.

Not all bad however, it does possess a few redeeming qualities.  The first of which is the undeniable singing talent that Aguilera has.  With that admission out of the way, there are a few standout tracks as well.  One that instantly comes to mind is Reflection.  Beautifully written and even more amazingly performed, its haunting lyrics and melody are sure to leave you breathless.  Other memorable songs include: Somebody's Somebody and Blessed.

Would I recommend the purchase of this album?  Probably not.  However, if you're looking for a bubblegum-style quick fix, be my guest.

O-Town

I must admit, when I first entertained the idea of purchasing this album, I was extremely skeptical.  After all, it was universally panned by practically every respected music critic who listened to it.  Eventually, though, I gave in to my desire to own it and purchased it a couple of months after its release.  Saying that I was pleasantly surprised would be the biggest understatement of the year.

Not only did I find this album incredibly enjoyable to listen to, I found myself absolutely captivated.  Why?  Simple.  The sounds that were coming out of the headphones on my CD player were unlike any others I had heard before.  A unique blend of newcomer uncertainty and years of maturity and experience was an unexpectedly welcome treat.

All five members of the group have wonderful voices.  That said, Dan Miller is the most vocally polished.  All and all, they complement each other extremely well and preform as though they've been together for years.

Every song on this album is infectiously memorable.  An "A" in my book from start to finish.  As for the people who refer to O-Town as a prefabricated, talentless, Backstreet Boys rip-off, sit yourselves up straight and pay attention because you couldn't be more wrong.  Furthermore, I foresee a long, successful future for the group.  With this debut being as wonderful as it is, I absolutely can not wait for what is sure to be a blockbuster followup.

PV's Weapon-Wielding Residents...

Added To Soap Opera Central's All My Children Message Board August 26, 2003

Hello, everyone!  I'm really glad to be back.

In recent weeks and months, All My Children has, in my opinion, greatly improved.  Although I am not so enthused with the recent rumblings regarding the impending release of many of the show's veterans, I think it will rebound quite nicely if faced with this problem.

Eden as Bianca is inspired.  I was extremely skeptical when the rape storyline began to take shape, but I must say, I've been pleasantly surprised where the acting and maturity of it are concerned.  If I were The Powers That Be at All My Children, I'd have visions of Emmys and Soap Opera Digest Awards dancing in my head.  Not only is Eden beyond exceptional, everyone else involved in the storyline is as well.  I cannot say enough good about this and it is a pleasure to watch everyday.

As one last quick note, I am extremely happy that Michael is going to be murdered.  That is not to say however that I am not impressed with the work of his portrayer.  I, as a viewer, find the thought of seeing Michael lurk around Pine Valley until November unbearable.  I can't wait until someone does him in.  I promise, I'll be on the front lines cheering.  With all the weapons that the residents of PV seem to have at their disposal, I can only hope the day comes sooner than anticipated.

My Thoughts On Our Favorite Show…

Added To Soap Opera Central's All My Children Message Board On Thursday, April 17, 2003

To start, I must say that I think the quality of the show's dialog has improved greatly. I would also like to mention that I am starting to enjoy watching the show in its entirety again.
One of my main complaints however is that the recently introduced characters such as Michael, Boyd, and Reggie don't seem to have any depth. That said, there are a few exceptions.

Although I didn't think I would when she first arrived on the scene, I am thoroughly enjoying the character of Lena. In my opinion, the fact that she is involved with some of the show's core characters, namely Erica and Bianca, makes her extremely interesting. Also, her pending romance with Bianca is sure to heat things up. I couldn't think of a better time then a sweeps period to take the storyline into such great territory.

Props to Jackson for finally telling Erica where to go. I just hope he's strong enough this time around to stand his ground. Where Chris' death is concerned, I couldn't be happier! From the time he first came to Pine Valley, I have disliked him greatly. I for one am incredibly relieved that Erica and Chris did not marry. Question. Where do you think Chris will be murdered? Spoilers indicate that Maddie Grey will be witness to his demise. Unless she is out late one night wondering the streets, this leads me to believe he will be done in somewhere in the proximity of Wildwind. One final question. Who do you think will be the one to do old Stampy in? I hope the mystery proves an interesting one.

On a related subject, it is said that Maddie will do something to bring Aiden, Maria/Maureen, Edmund, and Mia together. Since my guesses are usually right on, I'm going to say that whatever it is she does will assist in the return of Maria's memories. When her memory does decide to return, I hope that Maureen's transformation back into Maria and into her former life does not leave Aiden in the cold. As well documented in previous postings, I am a great supporter of the relationship between Maureen and Aiden. However, I must admit that Edmund and Maria are destined to be together and I to will be happy when they finally reunite.

To close, I would like to say that I believe that All My Children will eventually, and is already starting to,recover from its saddened state. As I said earlier in this message, I am enjoying watching the show more than I have in quite some time. If this pace of pickup continuous, I foresee AMC returning to the top of mountain where it so rightly belongs. Who else believes that All My Children is improving? I would love to hear your feedback and read your thoughts. Sure I'll post again soon. Please, everyone, continue your support of our favorite show.

Observations, Thoughts, And More…

Added to the Soap Opera Central's All My Children Message Board on  Tuesday, January 7, 2003

It's been a long time since last I posted and I have tons of opinions, thoughts, and predictions to share.

As always, I will begin this post by discussing the Maria situation.  Even though I believe I am in the minority of viewers with the way I've been feeling lately, I am extremely happy with the progression and twists this storyline has recently taken on.  Although I am not particularly fond of Aiden, I am somewhat enjoying the almost complexity and confusion of his situation.  As always however, I am a major fan of Eva LaRue and her original character of Maria.  I am sincerely hoping that a storyline climax and possible end for the upcoming sweeps is the complete return of Maria's memory.

On a similar subject but going down a different path, Julia's all-to-brief return.  I enjoyed it immensely and hope the new year brings more of the same excellent quality.  However, there is always a downside to counteract every good.  Firstly, Julia returning only days after the departure of her brother and his wife is utterly ridiculous.  Next, the fact that The Powers That Be at All My Children and actress Sydney Penny were unable to reach a deal to extend her stay is extremely upsetting.  I can only continue to hope that Julia Santos will be able to return in a more permanent fashion in the near future.

Moving on, the teen scene.  In recent weeks and months, All My Children has brought Pine Valley's teens to the show's forefront.  New faces such as Lori, Joni, and the newest recast of JR have been featured more than they should lately.  As a long-time viewer, I understand the importance of the introduction of new characters in the summer months and at other specific points in the year to draw in a new audience.  However, summer has come and gone and the focus of the show still remains on the juvenile residents of PV.  I believe that if the writers and creators of the show ever want it to recapture its glory days, the direction in which it is going must seriously be evaluated.  I am not however suggesting that the younger population of Pine Valley be ignored completely.  I, like most other viewers, don't mind the younger crowd in moderation.

Ending, I would like to discuss the new characters on their way to town.  Personally, as sort of previously stated, I believe that there are too many new characters on the show already and it is absolutely unnecessary to introduce more.  I am in no way interested to see the development of these characters or feel involved in their lives.  However, as the year, the storylines, and the show continue to progress, my opinion on this matter is likely to change.

Lastly, I must congratulate All My Children on their recent decision to release J. Eddie Peck from his contract.  As Jake Martin, in my opinion, Mr. Peck was never quite believable.  I am hopeful that the recast of this character will bring about a much-needed change and possibly bring him in a new direction.

As I said in my last post a few months back, I will share more thoughts and opinions when afforded the time.  I sincerely appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to read this post and am looking forward to responses.

Observations, Disappointments And Help!

Added to Soap Opera Central’s All My Children Message Board on Thursday, November 14, 2002

Hello, friends!  I know it's been a long time since I've posted, but I'm back!  So, let's get down to business!

I will first begin with observations that will then tie in with disappointments leaving only my request of help to discuss.

In the weeks and months since Maria's return, I have had extremely high hopes for AMC.  It is no secret to any fan, that for a ridiculous span of time now, All My Children has been on somewhat of a downward spiral.  That is not to say however that there haven't been all-be-it brief glimpses of light in the dark tunnel.  I, for one, released an unbelievably long sigh of relief when it was made public that All My Children had let its top scribe go.  Since the time our favorite Richard took over the helm last year, AMC, its quality and its ratings have consistently declined.

In a move that I originally thought to be brilliant, former President of ABC Daytime Angela Shapiro initiated the return of one of Pine Valley's most beloved residents, Maria Santos Grey.  Buzz surrounding the impact that she would have on the lives of the people who she once loved began circulating immediately.  Promotional spots at the beginning and end of every broadcast for a week were run building up anticipation for the return of this character.  The day finally came!  Her return was close at hand and I could hardly wait to see the drama and greatness that was surely about to unfold.  At approximately 1:54 p.m. on Friday afternoon it happened.  Mysterious music began to play and I felt my heart racing with joy.  The back of a woman's head was shown and she began to ask questions about becoming a doctor and working with children to a man standing in front of her.  Just as I was sure something totally amazing was about to happen, the screen went black and a voice warning us to "stay tuned for scenes from the next All My Children" was heard.  In all my years of watching television, that was one of the most disappointing moments I can recall.

Instead of continuing to drone on and on about the perfect storyline opportunity gone bad, I will now move on to another chapter of this mini novel.

We will now examine the few things that Richard did write with his short tenure at AMC.  Wait just a second, that's impossible considering he put one of daytime's most beloved dramas in the worst rating and creative slump since its creation in 1970.

There will be more negative and positive messages, ideas, and solutions added to this post as days and weeks pass.  Now, on to the help and request portion of this post.  I am wondering if any other message board user knows where I can get my hands on any All My Children multimedia on the Internet.  For example, I am searching for video files of AMC opening and closing sequences.  I am most interested in obtaining a copy of the newest one.  However, if anyone has any leads or information as to where I can find any multimedia at all, I would surely appreciate a reply of some nature.

While we're on the subject of being appreciative, I would like to thank all the viewers of this post who have taken the time to read my first installment.  In closing, I would like to let you know that I am open to positive and negative feedback of this "column" as well and criticism of any kind.  Once again, I sincerely thank you and hope to hear from you soon.

Well-written, fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat fun! Had forgotten about the final twist until the last page. You won't be able to put it down. Loved it, and hope to see this cast of characters again. Great!

The Husband's Secret

The Husband's SecretThe Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a book! I adore how Ms. Moriarty seamlessly weaves characters, and storylines together in unexpected ways. The story didn't unfold as I expected when reading its first pages, and I'm happy for it. I loved Big Little Lies before it, and hope I feel the same way about every book from this great author!

I appreciate his refreshing willingness to be raw, real, and not hold anything back. Read it in a day! Couldn't put it down, and can't recommend it enough. Bravo, Joey! What Alice Forgot

What alice forgotWhat alice forgot by Liane Moriarty

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love this book! A premise that could easily be seen as ridiculous is handled with such meticulous care and honesty that you won't be able to help following in love with Alice and all her drama. Ms. Moriarty does it again! I didn't want it to end!

OUT!

Kate Mansi is leaving the role of Abigail. While I've never particularly cared for the character, Ms. Mansi is of very capable actress, and should have absolutely no trouble finding work. Truth be told, if I were her, the decision to leave would be easy. Ever since I started watching, Abigail has been nothing but a whiny, oversexed, holier-than-thou, indecisive brat. With the recast, I hope more dimensions are discovered, and there is a point to her being on my screen. Fans of this incarnation need not break out their hankies in any hurry. Kate will continue to air through May.

The happiest of anniversaries to All My Children! There will never be a show that means more to me! I may not be able to check in with my Pine Valley friends on a regular basis anymore, but they will always hold a special place in my heart, and will never be forgotten! I will always hope we are reunited someday!
