High-Def "Doc" Coming!

Barbra's classic '70s comedy What's Up Doc? is being prepped for Blu-ray. While an official release date is TBA, October of next year is targeted. Don't mark your calendars yet though. We all know how frequently dates change in Streisand land.

Stick A Fork In It!

Something very strange happened mid-week. I actually enjoyed an episode of All My Children. I don't know who the writer was, but Wednesday's show was put together really well, and had excellent dialogue. Performances were on point as well. The glimmer of hope didn't last long, as Thursday was right back to stinksville. David Canary deserves an Emmy just for making the garbage he's given believable.

How are One Life To Live and As The World Turns in danger of cancellation, while this hot mess of a show sits pretty atop the ABC soap heap? It's time to bid Pine Valley adieu. Let it end while we still remember the good. The world has gone insane.

Dixie Carter Addresses The TNA Roster

I have to wonder, was giving the roster an ultimatum the smartest way for Dixie to motivate them?

Senseless Violence!

Everyone knows that, more often then not, when a character leaves the General Hospital canvas, it's in a body bag. Claudia is apparently no exception. Speculation as to how she would bite the big one has circulated for weeks, and now everyone knows. She died at the hands of an axe-wielding Michael. Not going to lie, I'm having quite a bit of trouble with this development.

While I agree that a gruesome exit was inevitable and deserved, why did Michael have to be the one to do Claudia in? I understand that she's the reason he was in a coma for a year, but violent revenge isn't exactly the best answer. Instead of plunging an axe into the back of her skull, Michael would have done better to keep Claudia safely secure until the proper authorities arrived to bring the situation to a logical conclusion. Making a teenage boy a killer is senseless and stupid. Where does everyone involved go from here? I just keep thinking how awesome the story would have been if the climax had taken the less-then-obvious route.

The Story Of My Life

Simply truthful, The Story Of My Life takes an honest look at the ups and downs of friendship. Wil Chase and Malcolm Gets tackle their roles of Thomas and Alvin with ease and conviction. I won't go into the story, except to say there's an unexpected twist at the end that caught me completely by surprise.

This isn't a show where the lyrics get stuck in your head for days, nor are they particularly memorable. The score is soft and understated, moving things along at a perfect pace. Taking the entire package into account, The Story Of My Life definitely deserved a longer life than it had. I love shows with substance and heart. Be prepared to come away from this one inspired and with a deeper appreciation of what you have.

Maze Of Fragmented Ramblings...

It’s amazing really. Trying to explain to someone how much they mean to you without sounding foolish. You close yourself off for so long, for fear of feeling. Then the stars align and everything unexpectedly comes into focus. Something as seemingly unimportant as the back of someone’s head, or a spur-of-the-moment joke, can change your life in ways thought impossible. If you’re one of the lucky few to find Everlasting, how tight do you hold on?

I’m scared of getting comfortable. It’s always meant devastation. At what point can you start to breathe without worrying you’re on borrowed time? It’s not true you know. While the passage of time certainly helps, it doesn’t completely heal wounds. Move forward in your own time. Don’t worry about being judged. Love with all you are, even after it looks to be done. Resist letting any one thing define you, but acknowledge assistance in shaping is a necessity.

And, just like that, it’s over as quickly as it began.

Hogan And TNA Partner Up!

Yes, it's true. Hulk Hogan and TNA are business partners. What does this mean for the company? Nobody seems to really know at this point. Personally, I'm conflicted. With Hogan comes the name recognition that TNA desperately needs. A definite pro. On the flip side, history shows that when Hogan is attached to a project or company, he usually becomes its focal point. Con. Lest we forget, with Hogan comes Eric Bischoff. With his entrance into the mix, it's widely believed that Vince Russo's days are numbered. Incredible pro. If you're reading this and have any wrestling knowledge at all, you know it's also true that Bischoff and Hogan like to surround themselves with friends and give them undeserved pushes to the detriment of a company. Con a thousand times over. I could go on like this for days, but you get the point. It's a game of wait and see.

Halloween Fun!

Everyone knows that I don't like Halloween. But, when the opportunity to go out trick-or-treating with my nephews and niece presented itself, I couldn't say no. Originally, I wanted to replicate Lady GaGa's look at the end of her Paparazzi music video. I thought better of that idea when I realized it would probably scare the little ones. Rebecca was kind enough to pick up a wig, cape, and some makeup to transform me into a vampire. A fun night was had by all. I don't think I looked too bad either. Definitely dressing up again next year.

Outstanding Star...

Okay, I want to admit something first. This idea is not an original one. That being said, I think it very important to recognize great work in Daytime, so that's what I'm setting out to do.

My first choice this time around his Julie Pinson from As The World Turns. Janet praying in the chapel for God to spare Brad's life was amazing. I appreciated the fact that it all felt so honest and real. Julie opted to take the understated root, and a wise choice it was. My heart broke when the tears started flowing. Great stuff.

A close second, Sarah Brown as Claudia on General Hospital. Even while Claudia was suffering a psychotic break and kidnapping a woman in labor, Sarah managed to keep it all grounded. With the writing providing no service whatsoever, I imagine it must have been extremely difficult for her to believe the nonsense Claudia was spewing. Somehow though, it was all believable and heartfelt. Crying gets me almost every time and Ms. Brown does a great job in that department. Kudos for making the shit rise above itself.

Found this wonderful site and have to share. It's such a pain in the ass trying to download PPV's every month. If you're not a member of certain sites, trying to find high quality video is difficult. I don't have to worry about that anymore. Xtreme Wrestling Torrents to the rescue! Amazing! Of course, you'll need a torrent program to download your selections. Everyone should join.

Hayley And Mateo Visit!

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos will reprise their Emmy-nominated roles of Hayley and Mateo in honor of All My Children's 40th anniversary in January. Ripa made the announcement earlier this week on Live With Regis And Kelly. The brief returns are expected to air the week of January 5th.

Smarten Up!

Why are the woman of Oakdale so desperate and delusional? Am I honestly supposed to believe that a sophisticated woman like Barbara Ryan would fall to pieces over being given the short end of the stick by Henry? Come on. She would snap him like a twig, use his leg as a toothpick, and not bat an eye. Get it together, Barbara. You're better than this!

While Henry is still fresh in our minds, let's talk about his mother, Audrey. As much as I love portrayer Lynn Herring, this character needs to go. Hairbrain schemes and ridiculous plots are fine, if not somewhat expected at times. However, when you continuously put yourself in unbelievable, compromising situations, I just don't care. Henry, Vienna, Audrey, and Maddie need to leave town and never look back.

I feel so bad for Liberty. The poor girl makes one careless mistake and isn't allowed to rectify it as she sees fit. It would be nice if all the people pulling her fifty different ways would wake up and realize that all this stress isn't good for mother or child. Let her live her life. I have the utmost confidence that she'll make the right decision when the time comes. Making life altering ones under duress is a recipe for disaster.

Broken Blu-ray!

I hate Sony. I've had nothing but bad luck owning anything with that name attached. My Blu-ray player, which is just about two years old, is on its way out. The warranty has expired and it's not worth fixing. Why fix something when the same problem is going to happen again in no time? The whole situation is very frustrating. It being around the holidays and all, I would feel guilty spending the decent amount of money needed to replace it on myself. There's always the day after Thanksgiving sale option...

Amazing Couple Of Days!

I've dedicated quite a bit of space on this blog to letting people know that I enjoy life's simple pleasures. With the exception of family, there is nothing more important to me then friends. I can't think of a better way to start the day then a surprise visit from your best one. That's exactly what happened Thursday morning. It was quick and spontaneous, but set the mood for the day perfectly. It's also a plus when you get to spend the majority of the week with someone you feel blessed to be around.

While still on a high from Thursday's surprise, I couldn't believe when I found out Friday was shaping up to be even better. A newly overhauled apartment, brunch with those same two incredible people, and a WWE pay-per-view. Does it get any better? Seriously? So, while I know I'm setting myself up for a healthy dose of goodnatured teasing, I would like to say thank you to Tim and Rebecca. I know I'll probably here something along the lines of "you don't have to thank us, that's what friends are for", but it's the only way I could think of putting it without overdoing. :)

I love you guys very much.

Love Is The Answer: Deluxe Edition

Breathtaking cover shot, amazing, age-defying vocals, perfect interpretation, and stunning song selection. All of these elements combine seamlessly to make Love Is The Answer a masterful work of art. For those unaware, two versions of the album are available. The first, a studio album with full orchestra, and a bonus track. The second, a deluxe edition, offering both the previously-mentioned disc, and a quartet version of the same material, minus the bonus track. The standard issue, while perfectly lovely, is totally outshined by its quartet counterpart. Use to hearing Barbra backed by a full, lush orchestra, I was shocked at how amazing she sounds with a simple string set and base behind her.

Wanting listeners to judge without bias, I'll resist the urge to list my favorite cuts. Every one is distinctly individual and unique. Beautiful pictures of heartache, loss, loneliness, love, peace, and longing are painted. Emotions thought long ago forgotten will breathe new life as you lose yourself in this enchanting work. Like has been previously stated, a number one debut, and the recognition that brings has never been more deserved. Anyone in doubt of Miss Streisand's ever-enduring talent and legacy will be silenced by this career highpoint.

#1 Debut!

With her latest album, Love Is The Answer, debuting at the top of the charts, Barbra Streisand becomes the only artist in history to have a number one record in each of the last five decades. This offering is truly one of her finest, and wholeheartedly deserves the spot. It is an honor and privilege to be a Barbra Streisand fan. I couldn't be more proud. Congratulations, Barbra! You are the greatest star!

Greenlee Lives!

Ho hum. Seems as though Greenlee survived the motorcycle crash. Rebecca Budig is returning to her signature role. TPTB are working overtime to lock the actress into a long-term deal, but apparently there's resistance. I'll tell you right now, if the storyline and effort are as atrocious as last time, I may have to take matters into my own hands.

New Colby Found Already!

Mere days after the news of Brianne Moncrief''s release, a replacement has been found. Natalie Hall is the new face of Colby Chandler. Though she begins taping in mid-October, her on-screen debut date is yet to be announced.

Powerful, sentimental, romantic, and sad all at once.

Pandemonium!

All My Children's shocking casting bloodbath! Let's total everyone up, shall we. Alicia Minshew, Thorsten Kaye, Daniel Kennedy, Jill Larson, Ray McDonnell, Beth Ehlers, Chrishell Stause, Brianne Moncrief, and Aiden Turner have all either quit, gotten fired, or chosen to retire from the show as a result of the immanent move to LA. What exactly is the point of this? I can see showing hair models like Aiden and Brianne the door, but to fire amazing talent like Beth Ehlers is nonsensical and unforgivable.

In related news, Susan Lucci, though not moving to the West Coast, is staying. Expect I Wanna Be A Soapstar runner-up BethAnn Bonner to join the show in the recurring role of Kat very soon. Sources say it's likely Bonner will score a contract. Great, just what we need, another newbie.

In all honesty, I would have rather AMC be canceled. Seeing it decimated is shameful and sad. I'm sorry Frons and Pratt, Rebecca Budig and Eden Riegel just aren't worth this.

The Zood!

When my sister asked me if I'd like to go to the zoo with her and the nephews, I couldn't resist. Such a wonderful time. The first two pictures are priceless. My sister is an amazing photographer.

P.S. I refer to it as the zood in the title because my oldest nephew kept calling it that. Hysterical!

Mongrief... er...Moncrief OUT!

I see a light at the end of this trainwreck of a tunnel. Sources are reporting that All My Children has shown DBTE Brianne Moncrief the door. This ouster proves that miracles can happen! No word yet on whether Colby Chandler will be recast.

A Love Like Ours

Start with the bad, end with the good. This album is riddled with issues. While I don't have problems with the theme of love and happiness, the songs are so sweet that my teeth hurt. One need look no further for evidence of this then the above cover art. For an album centered around life's greatest emotions, nearly everything feels uninspired. The songs are aimless, and bleed into one another without distinction. Repetitive lyrics are irritating and detract from what little there is to enjoy. I'm surprised and disappointed that Barbra would be associated with such subpar material.

You guessed it. This album's only saving grace is Streisand herself. Vocals are lush, strong, beautiful, and poignant, allowing the material to rise above itself. So, if you can get past all other issues, and focus on purity of voice, you'll get lost in greatness.

Turner's Aiden Out At AMC!

The soap gods have finally answered my prayer. Earlier this morning, it was announced that Aiden Turner, and his character with the same first name, will be leaving Pine Valley. According to the source of the info, the impending goodbye is storyline dictated. As should be obvious, I'm not exactly broken up with the news of this exit. Yes!!!

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Don't Forget!

Barbra will be on Oprah this Thursday. They're conflicting reports as to whether or not it will be her only appearance. Some say that the episode, which will apparently feature a peace on Barbra's new house is simply an appetizer for an hour-long in-studio interview. Either way, I'll keep you updated. Don't forget to tune in!

Raw: Goodbye, Lillian!

I was shocked when I saw Lillian Garcia in the ring with tears in her eyes after speeding through a commercial break. I rewound to the beginning of the segment and couldn't believe she was announcing her WWE exit. I really thought she was a lifer. Thank you, Lillian for your years of service and entertainment. May you have every success. You will be missed!

I was really impressed with the opening Cody Rhodes/Triple H match. Legacy shows amazing growth every week. It won't be long before they're headlining as singles. Unfortunately, after the opening, everything went downhill. The segments with Cedric The Entertainer were atrocious, I refuse to watch anything with The Big Show or Mark Henry, Evan Bourne jobbed again, and the match between Kofi and Swagger never really got off the ground. Time for a prayer. Please God, let this match between Cena and Orton be the blowoff. I'm desperate for something new!

Carly Simon Autographs!

I'm so excited to finally share these. Have been a fan of Carly for years. My dad, who works on Martha's Vineyard, approached her on the boat one day. He told her what a big fan I was and asked if there was any way he could get an autograph for me. She said she'd get a package together to give to me soon. He told me this when he got home that evening, but I honestly didn't believe anything would come of it. Sure enough, a couple of weeks later, he comes home from work with a package under his arm that has my name on it. Opening it up, I couldn't believe what I saw. Three one-of-a-kind autographs! Two CDs, and one Polaroid. I wrote immediately, thanking her for such a great gesture. Through business associates, she got one last message to my dad. She wanted to let him know that she had received the letter and picture I'd sent, and that the picture hung on the wall in the room where she keeps her awards! What an honor! I can't believe it!

A Walk To Remember

As much as I love the movie, nothing compares to reading the novel. Author Nicholas Sparks leaves no detail unnoticed in creating this stunning work. From the outset, the reader feels as if they have known each character forever. That familiarity allows for very deep emotional investment. Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan share a love that will soften even the hardest of hearts. Even though I'm writing a review, it's difficult for me to describe how truly amazing this book is. You'll come away a better person for reading it. Let the lessons it teaches inspire you to live your best life.

Awesome Weekend!

First was an adorable birthday party for my nephew. Loved getting to see the extended family. After that extravaganza, I came home and watched A Walk To Remember. Best movie ever! Sunday is family day at the farm. Had a nice cookout and visited with the extended family one more time before they head back. Was so awesome spending the weekend with everyone. It's not often we're all together in the same place. Good times! Good times!

Back On The Schedule...

That's right, I've tuned back in again. After hearing a radio interview with TNA president Dixie Carter about the changes being made to better the product, I had to see for myself. What an amazing turnaround. I'm so happy to see Impact focused in-ring again. AJ Styles had awesome matches with both Doug Williams and Chris Sabin. The confrontation between Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe was also a highlight. Hearing Taz on commentary made me smile to. Clean finishes and highly contested matchups make for great television. I guess you could say I'm cautiously optimistic.

Tragedy And Consequences...

He put that Barbra to his head, and pulled the trigger...

Hideaway Music Video

video

Off one of my favorite Streisand albums of all-time, Guilty Pleasures. Beautiful song, looking gorgeous, amazing vocal!

Yikes!!!

Not good people, not good. Nielsen ratings for the week of August 24, 2009 were just released. Our beloved sudser, All My Children hit an all-time low of 1.7. Disgraceful and sad. Unfortunately, I highly doubt anything will be done in an effort to try and stop the hemorrhaging. There's nothing we can say that we haven't been screaming about already.

Amazing!

How fucking stunning does Chrishell Stause look in this dress?! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when she came on my screen! There are no words!

Celebrate Good Times!

Apologies for me posting this late. We all had a great time celebrating my sister's birthday last weekend. The dinner choice of Chicken Caesar Salad was amazing, and the dessert with the name that I'm not sure of was pretty good to. I love this picture. She is so photogenic. Awesome. I hope you had an amazing day!

I Look To You

Just got done listening to the eagerly-awaited, highly-anticipated new offering from Whitney Houston, I Look To You. I've heard, and read about, several people complaining that her voice has lost some of its magic. While it's obvious that the sound of her instrument has matured with age, I think she's in top form vocally. Song choice is strong throughout. I just wish we had been treated to a couple more slow tunes. To that end, those looking for the Whitney of old, and unwilling to embrace the new, will be disappointed. Go into this with an open mind, take it as intended, and you'll be very pleased.

Quote Of The Moment...

"They say there's no future for us as a pair, and though I may know, I don't care."
-As Long As You're Mine-Wicked
I felt that way about someone once. Willing to throw everything away. Boy, am I glad common sense finally kicked in.

A Walk To Remember

Inspirational, thought-provoking and heartfelt. This soundtrack is a great mix of music. Pop, rock, Christian, and Classsic are all represented. You don't have to be a fan of the movie to enjoy. It may be wise to have a box of tissues handy. The memories come rolling fast. Love it!

Raw: Dusty Double-Cross...With A Twist...

I couldn't help but smile when The American Dream's music hit my speakers. He announces a title match between Orton and Rhodes with Cena as referee. One more twist, Dusty will be in Cody's corner. While it definitely sounded intriguing, I knew something was up immediately.

The rest of the night, with the exception of Hornswoggle, Chavo, Show, and Mark Henry was very enjoyable. The divas played a big part, had two good matches, and proved they are worthy of being feature attractions. Kofi Kingston, The Miz, Jack Swagger, and Carlito were thrown together in a United States Championship match. I loved every second and am glad to see Kofi retain. MVP and Jericho squared off in a very entertaining back-and-forth battle, with Chris eventually getting a clean victory. These two worked well. Wouldn't mind seeing them step between the ropes again..

Okay, back to Rhodes and Orton. When it was ten of eleven and the main event hadn't started, I knew we weren't going to get what was promised. As it turns out, the elder Rhodes orchestrates a beatdown of Cena, with every member of Legacy getting licks in. DX runs in to help but is quickly overtaken with the assistance of Dusty's cowboy boot. As the confident, cocky group stands victorious, with faces strewn everywhere, Orton RKO's Dusty out of nowhere. The screen fades to black as Cody, tears in his eyes after the unexpected betrayal, stands looking at his father helplessly. Am very interested to see how this turn of events plays out.

And The Emmy Goes To...

Congratulations to Vincent Irizarry for his Outstanding Supporting Actor Emmy win. Only a few other things worthy of note. Susan Haskill took home the well deserved Leading Actress trophy, Guiding Light and Sesame Street were given very touching, if rushed tributes, and Daytime Confidential was well represented. Everything else was a complete joke. With such a hack, uncaring representation, it's no wonder The Daytime Emmys had trouble finding a home this year. Wouldn't be surprised if it were the last one ever televised. Very bittersweet evening.

Not Guilty!

So, the jury finds Carl innocent in relation to the attempted murder of Rachel. I must say, Carl's lawyer meant business. With every point the prosecution made, a more intelligent rebuttal was waiting. Very impressive! If he can escape attempted murder charges with all the evidence pointing to his guilt, it's highly unlikely Carl will ever pay for any crime he commits. BC residents should watch their step more than ever. I have a feeling revenge is a dish Carl will serve up icy cold.

Cass is an asshole! I can't believe he's angry with Felicia for putting Lucas first. They are husband and wife after all! Oh, that's right. Everyone's supposed to live their lives on Cass' whim. It doesn't matter if you're marriage suffers, you lose a baby, or your trying to protect yourself from a murderer. As long as Cass is happy, it's all good! I hate him more everyday!

Jamie and Marley decide to elope. Jake gets wind of the plan and sets about stopping it. Everything he told Jamie and Marley in order to get them home was true. I admire his perseverance. One problem in all of this. He's started falling for Paulina. Will he finally realize Marley isn't worth his energy? Will Marley realize she wants him just as he and Paulina start building a life together? What kind of factor will Grant play? So many questions...

The Rise And Fall Of WCW

My expectations for this release were very high. The popularity and excellent quality of its predecessor, The Rise And Fall Of ECW, had fans hoping for an equally great product this time around. Sad to say, nearly everything about this set is a disappointment. The documentary itself is rushed and uninspired. Huge periods of history are missing, interviews are lackluster, and key elements are glossed over.

The special features, if they can be called that, are laughable. Totaling all of about 15 minutes, they're not even worth watching. Match selection on the two bonus discs is weak as well. Nothing never-before-seen or even rare, all retreads. I wish the care and attention given to the first set was paid here. It could have, and should have, been amazing.

Candles!

Got these beauties at Walmart the other day. Just $3 for the holders! The candles smell fabulous by the way! Cotton Fresh and Summer Rain.

I started my journey into the world of blogging one year ago. It's hard for me to find the right words to express how amazing it's been. I love you all!

Summerslam: The Return Of The Dead Man!

We're going to talk about the things that stood out. Firstly, Randy Orton retained the WWE championship. While the match ended in a convoluted, unrealistic manner, it was solid and entertaining until the closing moments. I was pleasantly surprised to see Orton escape defeat. Let's hope he starts relying on ability to win his matches.

CM Punk and Jeff Hardy had the match of the night. Though I went in knowing it would probably be the last we saw of Hardy for a while, there were a couple of times where I wasn't sure what was going to happen. The dive that Jeff took off the top of that ladder was legit one of the craziest things I've ever seen. He's to be applauded for giving it his all before his indefinite hiatus.

While that match definitely gets my nomination for in-ring performance of the night, the last five minutes of the broadcast stole the show. I'd been hearing for quite some time that The Undertaker was going to feud with Punk when he eventually returned. Though I'd been hearing that said return was set to happen somewhere around Survivor Series, my friend Tim was insistent that The Dead Man was going to shock with an appearance at Summerslam. He was right! After CM's hard fought victory, the lights went out, the gong was heard, and The Undertaker emerged from underneath the ring to lay waste to the newly-crowned champion. I can't think of a more intriguing way to end the extravaganza. Interesting developing feud with the potential for greatness. Going to have to start tuning into Smackdown!

Solid show, perfect ending, amazing night!

Macho Madness-The Randy Savage Ultimate Collection

Finally! I've been waiting for a career retrospective of Macho Man Randy Savage for such a long time. This set is awesome! The matches chosen are excellent and the extras are very entertaining. The wedding of Randy and Elizabeth and The Career Ending Match between Randy and The Ultimate Warrior are definite high points. Any wrestling fan would be stupid to not add this to their collection. Sensational!

Raw: Rinse And Repeat... And Repeat... And Repeat... And...

First, the good. Freddie Prinze, Jr. was my favorite guest host so far. It's nice to see an actual fan take part and enjoy themselves. Was awesome of him to take that bump from Orton. Evan Bourne and The Miz had a good match. I'm getting more worried by the week. Evan Bourne is to amazing an athlete to be buried in midcard purgatory. He'd be wise to make the best out of anything that happens. Okay, so that wasn't all positive, shoot me.

Degeneration X returned again. I know these guys like top spots and cheap pops, but even they have to realize how old this is getting. Same dialogue, same skits, same, same, same. Just let it die with what little dignity it has left.

For those wondering, the main event was predictable, ridiculous, and doesn't even deserve mention.

Jenna finally sees Matt for the scumbag that he is. Certainly took long enough. I'm happy that she didn't instantly run to Dean. Shows she has character and morals. It's going to be very interesting to see the relationship between Jenna and Dean develop. Oh, and another thing. If Matt is too heartbroken to stay in Bay City and manages to convince Lorna they should run off together, I wouldn't exactly be devastated.

Frankie's near-death experience appears to have put things in prospective for her. I'm really glad that Cass went ballistic on her after finding out about the miscarriage. His doing so may have finally allowed her to see the jackass he really is. I support her decision to keep the pregnancy from him. There was no more room for confusion in her life at that point. She handled everything as best she could at the time. I'm not looking forward to these two reconciling. Blah!

Everyone seems to think they have Carl right where they want him. Something tells me it won't exactly be that cut and dry. Piece of advice for all involved, he very cautious.

Mark Pinter has assumed the role of Grant Harrison. I enjoyed him immensely on All My Children and am anxious to see how he tackles this challenge. Maybe Grant will finally become something more than filler.

Publicity Plans For Love Is The Answer...

Turns out I may have spoken too soon with my publicity criticism. To get the word about her upcoming release out, Barbra is scheduled to appear on Oprah. Also, her club appearance will be broadcast live on the web. I'm very happy to see an effort being made. Let's hope it translates into sales.

Raw: Practically Unwatchable...

What the hell is this shit with Shawn Michaels? This is the angle that got him to come back early? A chef. Really? I just don't know what to say? We're two weeks away from the second biggest event of the year and there's no positive buzz. I just don't know. Hopefully something will happen to turn things around.

Usually I go on and on about Evan Bourne and Jack Swagger. My high hopes for a feud between the two appear to be crushed. Look at me. I'm so disgusted and disheartened that I can't even put an intelligent thought together. Summerslam is going to be an awesome night even if the PPV itself sucks. Thank God for great friends.

How The Mighty Hath Fallen...

I had never seen anything like TNA when it premiered in June 2002. The innovative, exciting X Division, with death-defying athletes like AJ Styles, Jerry Lynn and Lo-Ki. The entire product delivered from top to bottom. There was no undercard because everything was main event caliber. I still get chills and teary-eyed when I watch the match to crown the first X Division champion. Psychosis, Jerry Lynn, Lo-Ki, and AJ Styles put on one of the greatest matches in the history of the sport. Every Wednesday night was appointment television for me. Pushing such amazing young talent, how could a company go wrong?

Fast-forward seven years. I don't even watch TNA anymore. Somewhere along the line, someone decided it better to take the emphasis off the in-ring product and make poorly written, ill conceived storylines the focal point. It's heartbreaking. I feel cheated. With the birth of this company, fans were promised an alternative to the stale WWE product that focused on athleticism and competition. What happened? Is it right to blame one person or bad decision? I think it's a combination of things that can be remedied fairly easily. Let's hope Dixie Carter follows through with her latest plan to clean things up. Something needs to happen before it's too late.

Awesome Weekend!

I had such a great weekend. Getting to see Stephanie and Arthur on Saturday was definitely the highlight. Anytime they come for a visit is wonderful. I hope it's not a year before we see them again.

My brother makes knives. I've always been interested in seeing the process, but always felt like I'd be in the way or something. I finally decided to check it out a couple of weeks ago. It's fascinating. The time and effort one truly has to dedicate to such a craft is admirable. Great stuff.

PV411 Is Here!

The first ever episode of PV411. It's not much of anything but hopefully we'll... ur... I'll get better. :)

Dirty Hands! Dirty Face!

Okay, you got me. I stole the title of my post from a song. This picture was taken after working on the Bobcat with Grandpapa. It's hard pushing all those buttons and digging stuff up. That lollipop is well deserved.

Jeanine Wins!

Congratulations to Jeanine for winning this season of So You Think You Can Dance. Very well deserved. Truthfully though, I wish it were Evan. Anyone is better than Brandon I guess.

Love Is The Answer Cover Art!

No words can describe the beauty of this cover art. Barbra Streisand takes my breath away. Best album cover since Higher Ground. Simply stunning!

Walt Willey Taken Off Contract!

Sorry Jack and Erica fans. With the disappointing news that Walt Willey has been taken off contract, it doesn't seem likely that Jerica will have a happy ending. I can't say I'm surprised with this development. Jackson hasn't had a decent story in years and on-screen time for the character and actor has dwindled dramatically. While I won't miss Jack at all, I feel bad for the people who will. Maybe Erica will finally find someone worthy of her attention.

My DVD Collection Has A New Home!

I've been looking for a decent size storage unit to house my ever-growing DVD collection for a long time. Found this on Walmart.com on clearance and thought it would be perfect. Plenty of room! Should do the job for years to come.

Official: All My Children Relocates To California!

In case you've been living under a rock and don't already know, ABC has officially announced All My Children's move to California. From what I've heard and read, all on-screen contract players will be given the option to stay or go. Why the move? Cheaper production costs, a bigger studio, and the ability to build and house sets permanently. It's certainly going to be an interesting couple of weeks as more details become available. Stay tuned!

Simply Streisand

There couldn't be a better name for this album. Just Barbra, in exquisite voice, accompanied by beautiful instrumentals. Heaven! Comfortable, confident, and in top form, Streisand sings each song perfectly. My Funny Valentine is a masterpiece. While this album is certainly worthy of every bit of praise it receives, it's not my favorite. I can't exactly say why. It's a great listen on an occasional basis and is a must for any Streisand fan.

Lucci/Willey Phased Out? AMC To LA?

Executives in charge at the sinking ship known as All My Children just keep getting smarter by the day. Their latest idea to save AMC? Force leading man Walt Willey out by drastically reducing his airtime, and put the most popular actress in the history of daytime television, Susan Lucci on recurring status in hopes that she'll quit. Why? Easy. It would be much cheaper to produce the show in LA, and what better way to cut costs than to fire two of your most well-paid stars? No, I'm not kidding. Enjoy AMC while you can, people. If this happens, it won't survive.

Raw: Beat The Bullshit!

I don't know what to say. This is all just utter stupidity. How many more times do the fans have to see these recycled main events? So, Shaq comes up with the brilliant idea of the Beat The Clock Challenge. You'd have to be blind not to see that it was either going to be Triple H or John Cena who would win. If things stay on the course they've charted, the value of Summerslam just decreased greatly for me.

Can't creative come up with something better for Jericho to do? It's the same thing week after week. I can't imagine Chris is too thrilled with the repetition. Another thing, Jericho is much too talented to be paired with The Big Show. WWE's efforts to make Show viable have always failed. It's time to put the big man out to pasture. Seriously.

Kudos to Evan Bourne for his victory over Jack Swagger. I can only hope this means that WWE finally realizes it's time to push him like he deserves. We shall see.

I can't comment on the main event because I refuse to watch anything with Cryme Tyme.

Quote Of The Moment...

"Superboy and The Invisible Girl.. Son of steel and daughter of air. He's a hero, a lover, a prince. She's not there."
-Superboy And The Invisible Girl-Next To Normal

Words wouldn't do any of it justice. Definitely something that has to be experienced individually. Next To Normal is real in every way.

Night Of Champions

Congratulations are an order for Mickie James, Christian, and Jeff Hardy. All are new champions on their respective brands and had awesome matches. The six-pack challenge was my favorite part of the show and saw the unlikely outcome of Kofi Kingston retaining the United States championship. Orton, Triple H, and Cena was surprisingly entertaining until the all-too-predictable run-in. While I'm happy Randy still has his title, I really wish he would have retained on his own merits.

The diva bouts were excellent. Michelle McCool is definitely the top heel of all the women in the company. Maryse does a great job and is improving greatly with every match, but needs to change up her game a little to stay fresh. Tommy Dreamer fell to Christian in a hard-fought contest. Personally, I think the belt would have been better utilized had it stayed on Dreamer. I hope it's not long before we see Christian moved to another brand and used properly. Night Of Champions was amazing! Catch the replay if you can.

My Life According To Barbra Streisand

Just a fun little something I did using Barbra as inspiration.

Are you a male or female?
One less man to pick up after. No more laughter. No more love.

Describe yourself:
Run wild out on the edge of time child. Carry your dreams away. No one can hold you now. For you are an island.

How do you feel:
Bewitched, Bothered, And Bewildered.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go:
I'm in a New York state of mind.

Your best friend is:
Ageless and evergreen.

What's the weather like:
It's raining, it's pouring. My love life is boring me to tears.

Favorite time of day:
And the night will become our golden dawn.

If your life was a TV show, what would it be called:
Guilty Pleasures

What is life to you:
This will be my shining hour. Calm and happy and bright.

Something you would say:
My idea of a perfect world, is one in which we really appreciate each others differences. Short/Tall, Democrat/Republican, Black/White, Gay/Straight. A world in which all of us are equal, but definitely not the same.

What is the best advice you have to give:
I don't care if you're the patient or the doctor, relationships are difficult to have.

Thought for the Day:
It's the laughter we'll remember whenever we remember the way we were.

Something bothersome:
How I miss you kissing me goodnight.

My motto:
People who need people are the luckiest people in the world.

One Voice

Streisand fans waited a long time for One Voice to debut on DVD. Was it worth it? In some respects. Picture is clear and improved for the most part. However, excessive grain and other distractions are very evident in some audience shots. The new surround sound mix is an absolute pleasure. A definite "A" on the audio side.

How is the concert itself? Song selection is certainly appropriate for this political fundraiser. Barbra's vocals are strong and confident. Barry Gibb makes a special appearance to duet with her and the chemistry between the pair is electrifying. The politically-minded commentary of the evening serves well to emphasize the urgent feel that Streisand no doubt does her best to make apparent. One Voice stands as a great example of why Barbra Streisand is an icon.

The Death Of TNA?

Apparently, there's major unrest backstage at TNA. Rumor has said unrest resulting in the ouster of Jeff Jarrett. If this scenario were to materialize, Vince Russo would likely assume creative control. Without someone to keep an eye on him, I have no doubt that Mr. Russo could spell the end for TNA. Let us not forget that this is the man partially responsible for the death of WCW. He is considered by many to be the worst booker ever. Someone needs to realize what a terrible business decision this would be and stop it in its tracks. Get your head out of your ass and hire Paul Heyman immediately.

Freddie Frog

Would like everyone to meet Freddie. Found him at the fair last week and had to bring him home. Just too cute!

Here We Go Again!

You guessed it, my computer crapped out again! Just decided to turn off and not reboot. Redoing everything every couple of months is getting really old. Don't know what the problem is. Wish I had the money to get a new machine. Hopefully we'll stay up and running for a while this time. Please!

Elton John On My Answering Machine!

You can imagine my excitement when I came home from the fair Saturday night and heard Elton John's voice on my answering machine. Tim had gone to see him and told me he would call during Daniel so I could listen. So amazing! Greatest message ever! Thanks, buddy!

Uncontrolled Hysteria...

It's all well and good to be a huge fan of someone. Believe me, I know. My obsession with Barbra Streisand is forever. That being said, there are instances were it can go too far. Rebecca and I were watching a Michael Jackson concert this morning and I was shocked by the behavior of the audience. People were passing out before the man even sang a note. I ask you, what's the point of paying and unbelievable amount of money to see your idol if you don't even get to enjoy the show. As over the moon as I was to finally see Barbra live, I kept a fair amount of composure. Waiting as long as I did, nothing was going to keep me from seeing her performance in its entirety.

It's almost as if the people there to see Michael lost all self control. While celebrities can certainly touch and change lives, it's important to remember that they are just people. It scares me when people get so carried away and careless. While everyone is free to enjoy what they like, there's no need for hysteria. It's all quite ridiculous.

Incredible!

I went to see RENT on Tuesday night with Rebecca and Kyle. It was amazing! Being in the same building as Anthony Rapp (original Mark) was absolutely surreal. Adam Pascal (original Roger) was advertised but no-showed. That huge disappointment aside, it was a perfect evening all around. Definitely something I'll remember for a long, long time!

Shoot With Tammy Lynn Sytch

The best shoot interview I have ever seen! If you love professional wrestling, you know and admire Ms. Sytch's work. Refreshingly honest and straight forward, this interview allows one an amazingly candid look into the heart of a woman who truly loves wrestling. Mesmerizing! Thank you, Tammy!

Audio and video quality is fair. Truthfully, you'll get so caught up in the emotion of everything that it won't matter.

Paul Levesque

Mr. Levesque's first effort is disappointing. Unfortunately, the song selection doesn't allow him to properly showcase his amazing talent. The awesome range and power of his voice is held in check by the weak material. The heart and emotion present during most performances is noticeably absent. I expected better and know he is more than capable of delivering.

Raw: Bourne Better...

Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston are phenomenal. To go out there, with the small time they were allotted, and steal the show is amazing. These two gentlemen are the future of the business and should be looked upon as such. More TV time for both, please.

Ted DiBiase, Jr. and Randy Orton had a solid match. If junior can improve upon what's already there, the sky's the limit. He needs to venture out on his own and do some growing.

John Cena and Triple H put in a good one. It's just a shame to have a quality match end in such a ridiculous way. I'm not looking forward to the recycled main event at Night Of Champions. Something really special is going to have to happen to capture and maintain my interest. Not likely.

Time...

Time...

Slow and fast.
Ally and foe.
Friend and thief.
Love and hate.
Birth and death.
Promise-filled beginnings.
Sorrowful, untimely endings.
Old and young.
We are all at your mercy.
Beautiful and fierce.
How much do we have?
One never knows...

True Evil...

I'm sad to say that I think I was wrong about Taylor returning. Unfortunate, really. Was looking forward to her psychotic brand of entertainment. As crazy as she is though, Taylor has absolutely nothing on Carl. Trying to have Rachel killed at the television studio was just the latest in his long line of unspeakable deeds. I have a feeling, that when all is over, Rachel is going to look back on this attempt to take her life as the good old days. There's no telling what lengths Carl will go to in trying to get what he wants. A man with no morals or boundaries is extremely dangerous. I've heard rumors that Rachel and Carl eventually become involved romantically. If accurate, I can't wait to see how it all unfolds. Oh, boy!

As much as I enjoy Jake and Paulina, their constant arguing is getting old. I hope the pace picks up soon. Bring on the amazing supercouple I've heard so much about.

Sam and Amanda are boring. How many more times do we have to see someone staying with someone else out of obligation. If Olivia knew what was going on, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't like playing second fiddle. The collective men of Bay City need to grow a pair and stop being so selfish.

While we're on the subject of selfish idiots, I'll mention Cass. He up and leaves a perfectly happy life with Frankie to run back to his first wife and kiss her boo-boos. After a couple of months of "trying" to work things out, he gets bored and expects Frankie to be waiting. He confesses his love, admits his mistake, but says he can't leave Kathleen quite yet because of Carl. Confused? I am. I hope Frankie tells him to kick rocks the next time he comes sniffing around her heals. I hate him so much!

The Age Of Orton On Display!

Isn't this just the coolest thing ever?! My friend Kyle got it for me for my birthday. All my other action figures best behave unless they want an RKO! Randy Orton kicks so much ass! Thanks, Kyle!

Totally Engrossed...

Wow, whatever they were watching must have been absolutely captivating. It's so nice to see them sitting together sweet and calm. :)

Someone's In The Kitchen...

This is delicious Chicken Picatta. Rebecca and I had it for dinner last night. We added spinach just to do a little something different with it. Yummy!

Michael Jackson

I wasn't going to comment on any of this, but feel I have to now. Michael Jackson is a legendary figure in the music world and should be remembered for his professional contributions. I couldn't help but feel sorry when thinking that he'd experienced inhuman amounts of scrutiny and pain in his life. No one should ever have to go through anything close to what he has. Yes, there was certainly fame, fortune, and adulation. There isn't anyone in the world who should judge how that all effected him. When all is said and done, the truth is that he is the only one who will ever really know. Michael Jackson's professional successes are nearly unmatched. It is my hope that he be remembered for the amazingly unique and talented artist he was. May he truly find peace now.

The Bash: So What?

Just got done watching The Bash from last night and don't really care. Yes, there were a few good matches. Chris and Rey stole the show with their Intercontinental Championship bout. When amazing athletes are left to do what they do best, magic happens. I'm very happy that Michelle McCool is the new Women's Champion. This beautiful young lady is one hell of a wrestler who seems really dedicated to perfecting her craft. Got to love hard work and dedication. CM Punk and Jeff Hardy had a respectably good contest. I think it was a smart move to keep the strap on Punk. You can't put a major championship around the waist of someone who isn't sure about their future in the business.

Please, put ECW out of our misery. It's so obvious that the inclusion of the brand on the show was an afterthought. It's sad that the championship means absolutely nothing. Nothing about the brand resembles the old company that people loved. No one cares. Save the company money and lay the ECW name to rest once and for all.

Who else hopes that this was the blowoff match in the feud between Triple H and Randy Orton? How many more times are we going to be forced to watch these two square off? It's played out to the point of stupidity already. Move on.

John Cena vs. The Miz was the perfect opportunity for us to see the beginning of a rise to stardom. Instead, we're "treated" to Cena making short work of Miz. Why spend so much time shaping a rivalry to end it so quickly? I expect big things from The Miz in the very near future. Maybe John Cena was to much of a girl to hang.

The good definitely didn't outweigh the bad with The Bash.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Raw: What?!

What the hell?! I don't even know where to start. What exactly did Vince McMahon think including Donald Trump in the show for one week would do? Does he actually think the fans are stupid enough to buy this shit? Horribly botched Trump angle aside, giving away the main event of a pay-per-view for free isn't exactly smart. Another thing, what's the point of having three separate brands if the superstars from each can appear on any show? The brand extension was ridiculous to begin with and needs to be undone faster than you can say "bad booking." One more gripe. The fact that there's hardly any wrestling on a wrestling program is ridiculous. It makes me want to puke!

Okay, there are a few bright spots. Randy Orton is an amazing heel. Everything he does is so believable and intriguing. He is the personification of evil, and the fact that he fully embraces it keeps me glued to the screen. Next, I alwaays enjoy a good diva match. The women on the WWE roster are extremely talented for the most part and I love when they are given the opportunity to show it.

I hope somebody in charge realizes what a terrible show Raw has been and makes changes soon. Right now, they should be ashamed to call this their flagship show.

Evita-Original Broadway Cast

A fan of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice classic? You won't find a better recording! Believe me, I own nearly every in existence. Using words like perfect, impeccable, and flawless to describe it seems a disservice somehow. A masterpiece a million times over!

Info Regarding Forthcoming Streisand Album!

Columbia Records has issued an official press release regarding Barbra Streisand's forthcoming album. To be titled Love Is The Answer, a mix of jazz-flavored classics and standards is the order of the day. September, 29, 2009 is the expected release date. However, as we all are well aware when it comes to our Barbra, things can change quickly and unexpectedly. Track listing isn't available as of yet, but will be posted as soon as it is made so. My expectations for this one are extremely high. Am waiting with great anticipation to see if they are met.

Something (Almost) Positive...

After the post blasting everything All My Children yesterday, I'm here to say something a little positive. I just got through watching Jake and Amanda's nuptials and, in spite of myself, enjoyed them. Of course, I wish David hadn't interrupted and Tad performing the ceremony was quite ridiculous, but all involved acted their hearts out to make it believable. Favorite part had to be Jake waiting like an impatient child for Tad to finish so he could kiss Amanda. The vows were sweet on both ends to. Most certainly the best thing on AMC in a while.

Knots Untied?

Poor Iris! All the time and energy she's been exerting in an attempt to expose Paulina has been for not. Fear not, though, I'm sure she'll find many other ways to cause trouble.

Hooray! Jake and Paulina are finally married! I have a strange feeling things aren't going to go exactly as planned. I'll tell you one thing for sure, I can't wait for the real love story between these two to begin. Maybe then, Jake will finally realize that Marley isn't worth his affection. Jensen Buchanan is stiff and unlikable as Victoria/Marley. I've yet to see any sort of spark, decent acting, or attempt to own the roles. Hopefully, all the good I've heard about her portrayal of these characters shows itself eventually.

Matt is a total sleeze! Just minutes after humping Lorna, he's with Jenna acting the perfect boyfriend. It won't be long before Dean catches onto the game he's playing and makes things right. I'm actually excited to see the relationship between Jenna and Dean develop and hope it delivers on the potential that's there.

There's a storm brewing in Bay City and it's sure to bring tons of delicious drama. When the weather gets bad on soaps, it's always can't miss!

Why???

Okay, so I've been catching up on the AMC I missed because of the hospital and am disgusted and confused. Why exactly is "wish she was" Liza involved in every aspect of the show? It's obvious to anyone with eyes and ears that Ms. Luner is a one-note, terrible actress. Making matters worse, (if that's even possible), the writing for this formerly amazing character is sophomoric and abysmal. I don't see the point of any of this and hope we, as a viewing audience, are put out of our misery concerning not-Liza sooner rather than later. Please!

Why exactly did the beloved character of Stuart have to die? If Charles Pratt is so damn desperate to see a ratings increase, go back to the tried-and-true method of playing vets in sophisticated, engrossing storylines. The entire approach to this supposed murder mystery has been horrendously executed from the start. We, as viewers, should have been either left wondering which twin died, or have been the ones in on it watching the citizens of Pine Valley piecing the puzzle together and slowly learning the truth. Instead of everyday common sense prevailing, we're treated to a rushed, write-as-we-go, uninteresting mess. How much louder are fans going to have to scream before Charles Pratt's hackneed ways come to an end?

I wrote some time ago that it's hard to get invested in a storyline when you don't know how long an actor or actress is sticking around. Maybe that's why I'm not completely onboard with the Jake/Amanda pairing. Sure, Chrishell has re-upped till the end of the year. Then what? Are we going to be forced to endure another horrific miscast when she finally smartens up and leaves? I just don't know. I can't talk about it anymore.

Blessed...

You know something. I am one of the luckiest people in the world. I woke up this morning to find a very sweet comment from someone who found my blog. Her words inspired me so, that I got to thinking. Who has it better than I do, seriously? Sure, I have a physical disability that is very frustrating at times, but I refuse to let it define me. God blessed me with it because he knew I could handle it.

Over the years, I've struggled. Making and keeping friends has always been the most difficult challenge. I've come to realize though that true friends are dependable, loving, loyal people who are always there. As I write this, my best friend comes to mind. It took what seemed like forever but I finally found a true friendship that I couldn't live without. Tim has been my rock and is someone who inspires me everyday. That is not to say that I don't love my other friends dearly, but he is definitely amazing.

All right, enough of that. When he reads this, he's going to give me a Pedigree for being so emotional. Sorry buddy!

I would also like to take a moment to acknowledge my amazing family. I couldn't ask for better parents or siblings. Growing up, a conscious decision was made on their part to treat me like they would anyone else. They allowed me to grow, change, and experience without being overprotective or suffocating. I appreciate that more than I can put into words and will be forever grateful.

I know I'm probably rambling, but I felt compelled to say these things. Thank you to all I have ever loved and will love in the future. You've helped shape the individual I am. I love you all.

Labyrinth-A Novel

A.C.H Smith does an amazing job spinning a novel from this beloved film. Though I didn't think it possible, the world of Labyrinth is even more realized in print. Those who know the characters of the movie will find their knowledge enriched by the detail with which Smith describes every situation. Not familiar with the magic of the Jim Henson classic? Don't worry, the book will be just as enchanting. This novel has replaced The Neverending Story as my all-time favorite fantasy. Once the journey begins, you'll find yourself wishing the clock would never strike thirteen.

She's Baa-aack!

I certainly hope John and Sharlene don't get too comfortable. Taylor is back and ready to serve up some revenge. She's as psychotic as ever and I'm going to love every second! Okay, I know this post is really short, but I had to share the good news with everyone! Hooray for Taylor!

Charlotte's Web

Charming. That's the first word I think of when this book comes to mind. I don't remember it as a child and felt kind of goofy having a desire to read it as an adult. I'm very glad I did. Charlotte's Web teaches lessons of tolerance, patience, friendship, loyalty, and sacrifice that everyone would be better to try to live by. The most appealing thing about this classic read is that it isn't written as a typical children's book. Old and young alike will find it enjoyable and take away individual inspirations. Definitely recommended in the highest regard.

Dinner, Boats, And Laughs...

Yesterday afternoon, I decided that I was going to ask Rebecca to dinner. I hadn't been to my favorite Chinese restaurant, Bamboo Garden in a long time and couldn't stay away any longer. We had a wonderful. Great food, insightful conversation, laughing. After we had finished and realized it was too nice to come back home right away, we went to the docks to see the boats. I had never been and was quite fascinated. After a few minutes of serious conversation, we decided to lighten the mood by taking pictures.

We decided to have a photo shoot with Rebecca as the model. While all the pictures were beautiful, this one definitely stood out.

Thank you, Rebecca, for a wonderful evening. It was great fun and I will remember it for a long time.

Push Me, Pull You...

I hate Cass Winthrop! I really wish he would start making decisions with the head on his shoulders. He knows absolutely nothing about police work but is insisting on sticking his nose in the Signet investigation. It may be fun for him to play these little, ridiculous games, but it's not going to end well. If nothing else, Cass should think of the two women he supposedly loves and put their safety and welfare ahead of his stupidity. I wish Signet would take him out!

Scooby-Doo --I mean John and Sharlene are getting on my last nerve. I really don't know how much more of their stupid adventures I can take. John needs to cut his losses and take a full-time position at the clinic. I can understand wanting to clear your name and reputation, but this dance is getting real tired. After all these hours of agony, I had better at least get my Taylor payoff!

Brokeback Mountain

What to say about Brokeback Mountain. Though only a short story, it packs a punch that most novels lack. Intense from cover to cover, this book will leave you pondering the definition of love, and wishing you had it as described in the pages. While a quick read, this book is a must. This account of love, longing, circumstance, and regret will linger within you. Superb!

Wicked-Original Broadway Cast

We'll get the truth out of the way immediately. I was completely obsessed with this recording upon first discovery. It having been years and my obsession waned, I can now give an honest review. The two women in the leads fit perfectly. Convincing, wonderful voices, the whole deal. One problem immediately noticeable however is the fact that one can hear every breath taken. It becomes really annoying and distracting, watering down enjoyment. Next, large sections of the score are repetitive. Not good. The end being Disneyized to appeal to a younger audience doesn't help either.

As for the good, there are some touching moments and beautifully written songs. If you enjoy analyzing material, this piece provides plenty of opportunity. As fair warning, have a box of tissues set aside specifically for For Good. You'll cry for days. I can't quite wrap it up in a simple bow. Wicked is one of those shows that truly has to be judged on an individual basis.

Daytime Emmy Nominations...

Nominations for the 2009 Daytime Emmys have just been announced. All My Children has racked up an impressive twelve. That said, I think there are only two that have a chance of winning. Debbi Morgan pretty much has a lock in the Lead Actress category. Alicia Minshew is a possibility, but I won't be holding my breath. I don't think AMC is deserving of the majority of its nominations. There is one glaring omission. One Life To Live being snubbed for Outstanding Drama Series is a crime. I'll definitely be tuning in to see how it all plays out.

Streisand-The Concerts

Note: For the purpose of this post, the previously reviewed Live In Concert 2006 will not be
mentioned.

If you're a Streisand fan, you've been eagerly anticipating the release of this set. From a technical standpoint, be prepared for a major letdown. With no care given to the audio or visual restoration of The Concert: Live At Arrowhead Pond or The Making Of The Broadway Album, one is left feeling cheated and duped. Don't expect much of annything.

Technical issues aside, it's absolutely amazing to finally have these two Streisand treasures on DVD. I defy anyone to not get swept up in the pure magic that is Barbra live. There is nothing better!

The Making Of The Broadway Album is a take it or leave it situation. While it's nice to see once for insight and rare recording sessions, it doesn't bare repeated viewing and will most likely be forgotten in short order. Well worth purchasing for Arrowhead alone.

Quote Of The Moment...

"I need you now. Do you think you can cope? You figured me out.. that I'm lost and I'm hopeless. I'm bleeding and broken. Though I've never spoken, I come undone."
-Mad Season-Matchbox Twenty

We all experience the emotions of this fabulous quote at points It's just important to have someone you can really count on to help you through. Even more important, when you find the love of a great friend, never take it for granted.

The Role Of Paulina Cory...

Those are words I didn't expect to hear yesterday when tuning into Another World. One of my biggest soap annoyances is when actors and actresses change without warning. Cali Timmins had won my heart as Paulina from the moment I started watching. Now, though, Judi Evans as officially stepped in. It's only been one day, so I'm willing to give her a chance. Apparently, Jake and Evans' Paulina eventually become a supercouple. We'll have to wait and see if I feel the magic.

Quote Of The Moment...

"Special to me in my life since the first day that I met you. How could I ever forget you once you had touched my soul?"
-Unusual Way-Barbra Streisand

It's impossible to forget someone that touches you that deeply. Believe me, I've tried.

#1!

Ladies and gentlemen, it's official! Streisand-The Concerts has debuted at number one and is the highest selling music DVD of the year so far. Incredible news for Barbra and her supporters. I can't believe we still have a new album to look forward to!

Baker's Babe Back...

Yes, unfortunately you heard me right. Amanda Baker is set to return to All My Children in May as Babe Carey. In ghostly form, the character visits JR and Krystal and is the catalyst for the revelation of a secret. The stint will last a handful of episodes.

Happy Girl!

Was so happy to finally spend the entire day with Lily. We had lots of fun and bonded for the first time. She was absolutely enthralled by the kittens and if was awesome to see that beautiful smile. What a joy she is!

Someone's In The Kitchen...

Bacon, cheese and potato casserole. Is it the healthieest thing in the world to eat? Probably not. Come to think of it, it doesn't even look good. Trust me, it was.

My Two Cents...

As everyone knows by now, Jamie Luner has assumed the role of Liza Colby. Let's examine this in depth, shall we? It's common knowledge that Ms. Luner starred on Melrose Place during Charles Pratt's tenure with the show. It's also obvious that the two have remained friendly. First question, did their friendship play a role in this casting decision? Answer: Yes.

How can someone with blatant disregard for the rich history of All My Children be hired to helm this iconic show? Answer: Brian Frons is completely out of his mind. That's the only explanation for such a ludicrous choice. If Mr. Pratt had even the slightest of clues, he would realize that Liza is being written completely out of character. With her history of issues surrounding sex, Liza would never have jumped the bones of a man we're supposed to believe she doesn't know. To that point, it's beyond difficult to believe that Zach wouldn't know who Liza is. He's made it his business to know everything Chandler inside and out. What the fuck!

Continuing, have dye jobs become so unaffordable that highly paid actresses can't even afford to look the part? Answer: With the budget crunch that's effecting AMC, hair and makeup were the first to go. Liza has always been a platinum blonde. Red hair just doesn't make sense. Why all the secrecy? Answer; In addition to getting a law degree while away, Liza also found time to become a secret agent/private investigator and is looking for Dixie's real killer. As a side note, does anyone else find Jamie Luner's line delivery robotic?

Apparently, along with her many other talents, Liza has become a card shark. No, I'm not making this up. Everything I've said is actually happening. I know, my head hurts to. I just don't buy any of it. Nothing. There have been plenty of miscasts through the years, but this one really has me baffled. It just seems wrong on every level. There are other issues I would like to address on this topic, but it's legitimately worn me out. I'm signing off for now.

Fireworks!

What exactly does Carl have planned for Bay City? How will Kathleen figure in? What role will Lucas play? These are all questions I can't wait to get answers to. Carl is definitely one of the most intelligent villains I have ever seen on daytime. Just when the good citizens of BC think they have him pegged, he changes the game entirely. Top-notch drama!

Paulina and Jake are adorable. I have a feeling it won't be long before their little marriage scheme has real emotions mixed in to complicate things. The game of cat and mouse that they're playing is great entertainment. Awesome!

John and Sharlene are ridiculous already! You would think they'd realize by now that Taylor is always one step ahead, with nicely covered tracks. How much longer is this nonsense going to continue? Taylor needs to come back and rid Bay City of those two buffoons for good.

Matt Giraud Gone!

Okay, so I know I haven't done a lot of blogging about American Idol this season. Truth be told, with the exception of a couple of contestants, there hasn't been much to watch for. Unfortunately, this week saw the end of the Idol road for my favorite hopeful, Matt Giraud. I'm very disappointed, but look forward to following the awesome career he is sure to have. As for those remaining, I think it's fairly obvious that it's going to come down to Danny and Adam. Adam being putrid and ridiculous on every conceivable level, I hope Danny takes the crown. Honestly, now that Matt is gone, I really don't even care.

Quote Of The Moment...

"I don't care if you're the patient or the doctor, relationships are difficult to have."
-Barbra Streisand
Just pure wisdom. Amazing!

Simply The Best!

Hooray! 4.9 million people watched the abbreviated broadcast of Live In Concert 2006 on CBS! Overnight, the highly anticipated Streisand-The Concerts shot to #1 on Amazon.com's preorder list. The good news just keeps coming. The CD version of Live In Concert 2006 has made its way onto several top five lists on Amazon as well. Amazing! I'm so proud of you, Barbra!

The Age Of Orton!

A new era in WWE history has begun. Randy Orton is champion once more. If the rest of the roster were smart, they'd beg forgiveness and do whatever necessary to join Legacy. We may all very well be witness to the rise of the most powerful group in the history of professional wrestling. This is only the beginning. I can't wait to go along for what is sure to be one hell of an amazing ride. Fasten your seatbelts everyone!

Easter Photo...

I love it! He just gets more and more adorable. Growing up so fast!

Sincerity...

Tom Eplin is amazing! My heart broke for Jake when he finally came to the realization that there isn't hope of reuniting with Marley. I just wish Jake would learn from his mistakes instead of setting his sights on terrorizing poor Paulina. Whatever happens, I'm hooked. Mr. Eplin is fast becoming one of my favorite actors, brava!

Why does everyone insist on treating Victoria like a meddlesome child? I really don't like the way Ryan is always sidestepping her questions and putting everyone else first. She seems to be ignored at every turn and I can't see her putting up with it for much longer. If Ryan isn't careful, she's going to walk out and not look back.

It looks as though Kathleen finally has Cass. How long will it last? I don't think it will be long before Cass thinks he has to play hero when he finds out Frankie is pregnant. Kathleen is a strong, beautiful woman who deserves better than to be second best. Then again, how much sympathy can you have for someone who continually places themselves in that role?

Saturday, April 18, 2009

Quote Of The Moment...

"If you want to buy my wares, follow me and climb the stairs."
-Love For Sale-Patti LuPone
Just awesome!

Kathleen Or Frankie?

Let's be clear, I don't think Cass deserves either. That jerk seems to enjoy having two women at war over him. If I had to choose one to have what they think would be their happily ever after, it would definitely be Kathleen. She's been through three lifetimes of hell and is in desperate need of a break. Frankie is too needy and clingy for my liking. She needs to focus all her energy on what's best for the baby now and let everything else fall away. Get it together, woman!

Speaking of desperate, delusional women, Donna needs help. If ever the old saying about the truth setting one free applied, it would be to this situation. Why is it so difficult for this beautiful, highly intelligent woman to tell the truth? Doesn't she realize that practicing that one simple rule could rid her life of all unnecessary heartache and problems? Donna lies as easily as she breathes. Not a good way to live.

Taylor, Taylor, Taylor! I imagine she's having a wonderful time watching John, Sharlene and company run in circles. Everytime that crew of junior detectives hits a dead end, I can't help but chuckle. I know it won't last forever, but I'll be cheering Taylor on until it all catches up.

Sometimes Comedy Vales Truth!

This is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I don't usually post videos, but couldn't resist. Whoever came up with this is an absolute genius. It kind of makes me sad because I feel like there is a high probability that meetings like this actually take place. Can't wait to see other episodes. Please, someone, save our show!

Undeniable Chemistry...

So, I may be in the minority with this, but I don't like the way Marley treated Jake when she saw him on the tent crew. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand wanting revenge when someone does you wrong, but there are ways to go about it. The way that Marley through her supposed happiness in Jake's face was rude and unnecessary. To that point, I think she was doing her best to try to hide her obvious feelings for him. I may be wrong, but I think it's only a matter of time before these two find their way back to each other.

Taylor has taken to haunting John and Sharlene from beyond the grave. I love it! Something tells me the menacing doctor isn't really dead. The scenario, as it's playing out now, seems perfectly set up for an eventual return. I wish I could have seen Taylor's psychosis from the beginning. She has certainly been the most entertaining part of the show in the short time I've watched. I absolutely cannot wait to see what else the deranged doc has in store for the smug pair. Delicious!

Say Sneeze!

What better way to wish your uncle a happy birthday then to sneeze all over his cake? This was definitely one of the funniest moments I remember in a while. So glad we got the perfect picture to capture the hilariity.

Guttman's Alex Cambias Senior Resurfaces...

The Satin Slayer lives! Ronald Guttman returns to All My Children in May to terrorize the citizens of Pine Valley. One has to wonder why the useless Senior Cambias is even needed at this point. Alex is said to be bringing shocking news pertaining to Dixie. Is she alive? Why can't the writers just leave the poor woman and her fans alone already?

Wednesday, April 8, 2009

Bat-Shit Crazy!

That Taylor Benson is definitely insane. Bringing Sharlene to an abandoned amusement park to kill her isn't exactly the brightest of ideas. I've never understood how women go so crazy over men who so obviously don't want them. Does Taylor honestly think murdering Sharlene is going to endear her to John? Let's get serious! Somehow, I just don't see this amusement park murder plot working out good for psycho Benson.

Quote Of The Moment...

"A man like me is dead in places other men feel liberated."
-I Want Love-Elton John

What an amazing quote. If anyone reading this has a chance, you should definitely download this song. It's fabulous!

Bassey Back As Marian!

Look for fan favorite Jennifer Bassey to reprise her signature role in the near future. Apparently, Marian returns to town shortly after Liza. No word yet as to how long we can expect the stay to last.

Take Me Away...

So, I've recently discovered Another World through Hulu.com. To say I was immediately swept up would be a major understatement. The characters and storylines are so richly drawn and thought out that it's almost impossible not to fall in love instantly. The actors and actresses are right up there with the best in daytime. I absolutely cannot wait to see how things play out. I think I'm in it for the long haul. Bay City is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit.

Guiding Light Canceled!

Well, folks, it was just made official. The light will go out forever for television's longest running program. While I didn't tune in regularly, my heart is breaking. What does this mean for my beloved genre? How is it possibly expected to survive and thrive without the support and passion of the people heading the daytime divisions at ABC, NBC, and CBS? This is a terribly sad day that could very well mark the beginning of the end for daytime drama.

Streisand: Live In Concert 2006

I love it! I love it! I love it! To start, picture and sound quality are so superb they could be used as demo material. The special features included are wonderful and really add to the overall experience. The concert is absolutely sublime and showcases Barbra Streisand at her finest. Nothing to complain about here. One of the most incredible performances ever!

Eden Riegel returns to All My Children on April 24th. It is presumed that Bianca and Reese will work through their issues and exit shortly after. As of this posting, there is no official word regarding the length of the return engagement.

The Hardcore Diaries

The third installment of the Foley autobiography series pales in comparison to the first two offerings. Sure, there are touching stories about his philanthropic work, and hilarious tales from the wrestling world. Not enough. I was looking/hoping for something entirely different. It feels as though the book was thrown together minutes before a deadline without much care. Much of the same all the way around. Extremely disappointing because I know Mick Foley is better than this. Don't waste your time.

Remembering Zelda...

This is the last picture ever taken of my sweet girl. I'm tearing up just looking at it. If I had thought for even a second that her fate would be so terrible, giving her up wouldn't have even been an option. She was adorable and a wonderful pet. I will never forgive a certain someone for sealing sweet Zelda's fate without letting me know so I could intervene. I'm so sorry and wish you were still here.

Dashed Dreams! Kaye Reups With AMC...

I am absolutely heartbroken. Thorsten Kaye has inked a new deal with All My Children. With the recent rumblings of failing contract negotiations, my heart was all aflutter with dreams of the demise of Zach Slater. Unfortunately for everyone who believes in the equal treatment of women, Mr. Slater is set to infect our television screens for a long time. I hate this!

Scott Chandler Returning...

Adam Mayfield will assume the role of Scott Chandler beginning April 9th. When last seen, the adopted son of Stuart was played by Forbes March. With his recent exit from One Life To Live, one wonders why March isn't reprising the role. Perhaps the idiots in charge were too stupid to ask.

Les Miserables-The 10th Anniversary Dream Cast In Concert At London's Royal Albert Hall (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)

Any fan of Les Miserables knows that the tenth anniversary concert cast is widely regarded as the best representation of the show. Vocals, performances, and casting are perfect. It's very rare to assemble such an amazingly talented company. You won't find a better cast anywhere.

Where the DVD itself is concerned, I couldn't be more disappointed. Picture quality is among the worst I've ever seen. For all intents and purposes, it looks as though a worn-out VHS was used as the master for this release. Absolutely disgraceful with technology today. This aspect alone makes it not worth the purchase.

Sound is passable at best. Why an upgrade to 5.1 surround hasn't been made is baffling. The documentary on the second disc is wonderful and really provides great insight into the creative process. So good it may even stand repeat viewing. My advice: If you have the original DVD release and can live without the documentary, wait until an improved version is available.

Back To Broadway

Save one unnecessary track, this recording is one of Barbra Streisand's finest. In as good a voice as ever, it is evident that she enjoys losing herself in every song. As is nearly inescapable, the inevitable comparison between this release and it's predecessor, The Broadway Album, is almost always made. In my humble opinion, this offering outshines the aforementioned in every way. Song selection, performance, and voice are far superior, and are on par with Ms. Streisand's best work.

There is one song however, that stands in the way of this album achieving perfection. The Music Of The Night, normally sung solo, but here in the form of a duet, comes off as only forced filler. This misstep is easily forgiven when weighed against the greatness of the rest of the album. An absolute must for any fan of Barbra, Broadway, or great singing. All three are here in top form.

Rent

One of the best Blu-ray discs I've ever seen. Picture and sound surpass expectation and are near-flawless. Special features are wonderful and allow the viewer to delve deep into the amazing world of Rent, thus allowing a better understanding and greater appreciation of this amazing piece.

As everyone already knows my unrequited love for everything Rent, the remainder of this review will focus on the differences between the movie and stage versions.

While the film reunites most of the Original Broadway Cast, Rosario Dawson and Tracie Thoms fold into the family perfectly as Mimi and Joanne. "Halloween" and "Goodbye Love" are noticeably absent, but don't disrupt the flow of the film.

This is the best big-screen adaptation of a musical to date. You won't be disappointed.

Rent-Original Broadway Cast

I never thought a musical would come along and unseat Evita as my all-time favorite. Rent has. Not much can be said about it that I haven't already. The cast is perfect, and music and lyrics are among the best ever written. I could ramble for hours on end about the greatness of this piece of work, but won't for fear of being repetitive. Jonathan Larson created a masterpiece that will stand alone at the top forevermore. Let the power of Rent change your life!

The Death Of WCW

I was so excited to see this book finally available in Kindle format. To say it's a fascinating read would be a gross understatement. Anyone who respects the history of the wrestling business should read this like a textbook. Never have I read such amazing attention to detail in a retrospective. The assessments and suggestions given by the authors are thought provoking and very well presented. Promoters should read this book through several times and take the lessons it teaches very seriously. If you ever wondered why WCW no longer exists, all answers can be found in this amazing retrospective. Do you love wrestling? Run out and buy this book. It's worth every penny!

Streisand Double-Dip!

By now, everyone knows about the three DVD Streisand set being released on April 28th. Live In Concert 2006 will be the first Barbra Streisand venture to see a Blu-ray release. The snag however is that the Blu-ray version of the concert doesn't come as part of the boxed set. So, in order to experience Barbra in all her high-definition glory and still own the other highly anticipated releases, the fans are forced to buy the boxed set including a standard definition 2006 and the individual Blu-ray of 2006. This isn't right. I don't understand how those who came to this decision can get away with it. All right, as much as I'm venting frustration, everyone knows I'll probably end up buying both versions. I guess I answered my own question. They think they can get away with it because people like me do whatever they can to support a brilliant talent. Oh, well.

Just When I Thought I Was Out...

Eden Riegel and Tamara Braun pulled me back in. They're performances yesterday were among the best I've seen in years. AMC would be absolutely foolish to not do whatever necessary to persuade these two extraordinary talents into signing long-term deals. Let's hope they realize this before it's too late.

Note: Yes, I know Eden is already technically out. Here's hoping those in charge realize their mistake and get her back with the quickness.

Quote Of The Moment...

"Ever since this world began, there is nothing sadder than a one man woman looking for the man that got away."
-The Man That Got Away-Barbra Streisand
Ain't that the truth!

I Just Don't Know...

Greenlee is officially gone, and I just don't know how to feel. Part of me is enraged at the stupidity of the people in charge at AMC. In the event of the return of an actress to her insanely popular signature role, logic says to do whatever necessary to retain said performer and keep her and the fans happy. As we all know, All My Children has failed miserably on all counts. Greenlee went from a strong, ferociously independent inspiration, to a quivering mass of uselessness in a little less then a year. There are no words to properly express how difficult and upsetting it was to watch that transformation.

Adding to the ridiculousness of everything that's transpired to this point, Rebecca Budig herself has stated that the probability of Greenlee actually dying is slim. With the actress admitting a willingness to eventually return, what exactly is the point of all this? I have to stop writing before my head explodes and someone is left with a terrible mess to clean.

Yentl (Two-Disc Directors Cut)

The recently released two-disc director's cut of Yentl has gotten quite a bit of positive press. While the movie itself stands up very well 25 years on, I don't think the DVD is worthy of the effusive praise lavished on it. Picture quality is so inconsistent that you'll find yourself needing an Advil to stave off a headache. Sound quality doesn't fair much better. The special features are, on though whole, tedious and uninteresting. All that said, the movie itself is so amazing that it justifies the money spent. If you're a collector of anything and everything Streisand, be sure to pick this one up. If not, I advise renting.

Finally!

Streisand fans rejoice! Yesterday, it was officially announced that the long-awaited concert boxed set will finally see release in April. The three-disc set includes the following:

Live In Concert 2006
1994-The Concert From Anaheim
Putting It Together: The Making Of The Broadway Album

Whether or not bonus material will be included in the set is unclear. Also, a Blu-ray release for Live In Concert 2006 seems unlikely at this time. 2009 is more then going to make up for a disappointing 2008 in Barbra World.

Update: It looks as though Live In Concert 2006 will be available on Blu-ray after all. That sound you hear is me squealing with excitement!

Stupid Wheelchair Mixup!

My wheelchair is in desperate need of repair. The parts finally come in and the tech calls yesterday morning and says he's on his way. He also says he'll have to take the chair because the repairs are too extensive to be done here while I wait. I wait four hours yesterday for a noshow and a ridiculous explanation. Things were supposedly set back on track for today. A couple problems. The loner provided was absolutely useless. Someone should have provided the necessary information before bringing out this piece of garbage. Lastly, my backup power chair also proved useless, as it wouldn't even move. It's all going to work out though. In a couple of weeks, I'll just have to use my manual chair for the day while repairs are being done. Why is nothing ever easy?

Riegel Out, Braun Staying... For Now...

Eden Riegel has decided against renewing her contract when it expires shortly. She is said to be extremely displeased with the direction Bianca has taken this last go round. However, rumors have Bianca returning later this year to wrap up loose ends. We shall see...

In related news, Tamara Braun and Reese will be sticking around PV for a while longer. No official word on how long.

Facebook!

So, I discovered Facebook yesterday and am loving it. I'm already making connections with people I haven't talked to in years. This could all prove to be the start of something wonderful!

Rent: Filmed Live On Broadway

The final performance of Rent on Broadway has been made available in this stunning Blu-ray. Picture and sound quality will leave you slack-jawed. Camera work is in a class all its own. It's been said that trying to replicate the live feel of theatre brings disastrous results. While true in most cases, this offering is the exception. Perfection on both the visual and audio fronts.

The cast themselves? For the most part, it's all good. A couple of quibbles though. I found that Renee Elise Goldsberry was unable to provide Mimi with the strong vocal presence needed for the role. I also found that Justin Johnston didn't bring enough feminine sensibility to Angel. However, once you're all wrapped up in this joyous ride, these things are hardly noticeable. For Rentheads and theatere lovers alike, YOU MUST get swept away by the beauty of this experience!

Without You: A Memoir of Love, Loss, And The Musical Rent

Inspirational! That's the first word that comes to mind when reading this amazing work. As everyone knows by now, I'm an unapologetic Renthead and originally started reading this book with hopes of getting an in-depth look at the behind the scenes process of it all. Boy, did I ever get more than that. I've never read an autobio where it seems as though you're just having a great conversation with a best friend over coffee at your favorite cafe. Everything flows so beautifully that you may forget you're reading a book and find yourself wanting to ask questions as though Anthony Rapp is sitting beside you.

What I would imagine to be nearly every detail along the road of his life is shared without reservation. There is an intimacy in this experience that I've never felt before as a reader. So much so that I became aware of tears rolling down my cheeks on several occasions. I've resisted giving specific detail because I believe that the impact of this book must be experienced for one to truly understand its power. I can honestly say I will never forget the emotions I felt while reading. Go out and get this book! No day but today!

Bravo, Lozano!

Florencia Lozano as Tea Delgado is brilliant. I've been watching One Life To Live on a fairly regular basis for a while now and find myself enthralled with every move this character makes. I don't think I've ever seen a lawyer portrayed more believably on daytime television. To that same point, it's extremely rare to see an actress fit so easily into the skin of the character she plays. I'm sure it helps to be given such wonderful material to play. When one has the ability to peel back the many layers of a character and choose which aspects to play flawlessly, you can't help but be impressed as a viewer. I only wish there were more actresses committed to their craft as much as Ms. Lozano is. I'll most certainly be watching as long as Tea is in Llanview.

Officially A Renthead!

While I've always loved the show, I've hesitated in using that term. A Renthead is someone who has been touched to their deepest self by the show and is forever changed. Okay, I admit, for those unfamiliar with the messages and lessons within Rent, a statement of that magnitude may seem foolish. The reason why this show stands alone is the inherent honesty it proudly wears for all to see. Never has a musical dealt with enormously intense issues with such grace and dignity. HIV-AIDS, sickness, death, friendship, betrayal, love, acceptance, and loss are given a human face, forcing people to pay attention and dissect their own lives to find deeper meaning. It is my wish that everyone discover the pure beauty that is Rent. You'll find yourself a better person for opening your heart to it. Rent is truly a way of life.

Quote Of The Moment...

"I trust my soul. My only goal is just to be."
-Another Day-Rent

Has anything more beautiful ever been sung. So inspiring that I've yet to make it through the song without tears welling in my eyes.

Friends

I would just like to take a moment to say how lucky and blessed I feel to be surrounded by a group of people I can really count on. It's been a long time coming and I'm so glad it has finally happened. You couldn't ask for a better best friend than Tim. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe him. It's so nice to feel I finally have a core. Thank you, wonderful friends.

Animal Farm

One has to wonder if George Orwell foresaw the future destruction of America while penning this timeless classic. Supposedly a satire of Stalin era Russia, Animal Farm could just as easily had been written about George W. Bush's reign of terror. This book paints a terrifying visual of what happens when power gets into the hands of the corrupt and dishonest. Lessons of patience, naivete, and trust are masterfully explored. Animal Farm should be required reading in schools across America. An "A" all the way!

The Importance of Being Barbra: The Brilliant, Tumultuous Career of Barbra Streisand

First, the good. Author Tom Santopietro clearly respects Barbra Streisand and all her accomplishments. Though so obviously a fan, Mr. Santopietro is, for the most part, objective and fair in regards to critiques of material he considers lackluster. A point to accentuate the positive in even the most negative situations is made. It's wonderful to finally see an unbiased inspection of Ms. Streisand's career. (The book only covers until 2005.)

The bad. For starters, quotations. Of the dozens throughout the book, none are accurate. You would think that with all the trouble and care so evident in making this book, one of its most important elements would be properly represented. Next, there are several times where aforementioned criticism is entirely unwarranted and meanspirited. Feel free to draw your own conclusions. The chapter focusing on politics, while not entirely unnecessary, is fairly damaging to the great pace of the book. If a Streisand devotee such as myself, there isn't much new information to be found within the pages.

Final grade, B-
